AssessVia ("AssessVia", "we", "us") runs AI-conducted technical interviews on behalf of recruiters and hiring teams ("recruiters") who invite candidates to take them. This page explains what we collect from recruiters and candidates, why, and who can see it. It applies to assessvia.io and the AssessVia product.
This is a plain-language description of our actual practices, written by the team that built the product -- not a substitute for legal advice. If you have questions about how your data is handled, contact us using the details at the bottom of this page.
What we collect
From recruiters: name, work email, and phone number (only if you check out a paid plan, since our payment provider requires it), plus the interview configurations and candidate reports your account creates.
From candidates: your name (as entered on the interview join screen), your resume file or pasted resume text if the interview requires one, and the interview itself -- your live audio (converted to text for the AI interviewer to understand you, and back to speech for it to talk to you), the resulting transcript, and basic browser-activity signals during the interview (for example, whether the tab lost focus or the interview was paused). These signals exist to flag things a human interviewer could otherwise not miss if you left the tab or another window covered the screen -- we do not install anything on your device or access it outside the interview session.
We also collect standard technical data (IP address, browser type, timestamps) as part of normal web server logging.
How we use it
Candidate audio, transcripts, and resume content are used to run the interview and to generate an assessment report for the recruiter who created it. We use a third-party AI model to evaluate technical answers; that evaluation is not shown to the candidate -- it is delivered privately to the recruiter.
Recruiter account data is used to operate the product: authentication, billing, usage tracking (interview credits), and, if you contact us, to respond to you. We do not sell personal data, and we do not use candidate interview content to train our own models.
Who can see what
- The recruiter who created a given interview can see that candidate's transcript and assessment report. Recruiters cannot see other recruiters' candidates or accounts.
- Candidates can see their own submitted post-interview feedback form but do not see their interview score or the AI's assessment -- that is a private report for the recruiter, similar to how you would not see a human interviewer's internal notes.
- AssessVia staff (currently, the founder) can access account and cost data to operate, secure, and troubleshoot the platform, and reviews data only when necessary for that purpose.
Third parties we use
We rely on a small number of subprocessors to run the product, each bound to only use your data to provide their service to us:
- Anthropic -- powers the AI interviewer's understanding of your answers and the assessment it produces.
- Speech and voice providers -- convert your spoken answers to text and the AI interviewer's responses back to speech in real time.
- Supabase -- hosts our database and handles account authentication.
- Cashfree -- processes recruiter payments. We do not store your card or bank details ourselves.
- Railway and Vercel -- host our backend and website infrastructure.
How long we keep it
Interview transcripts and reports are retained for as long as the recruiter's account is active, so recruiters can refer back to past candidates. Recruiter account data is retained for as long as the account exists. You can request deletion at any time -- see Contact below.
Your choices
If you are a candidate and want your interview data deleted or want a copy of what we hold about you, contact us and we will action it, subject to the recruiter's legitimate need to retain assessment records for a role they are actively hiring for. If you are a recruiter, you can close your account by contacting us; this removes your access but does not retroactively delete reports already delivered to you.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS) and access to recruiter accounts and candidate reports is restricted by row-level access controls so a recruiter can only ever reach their own data. No system is perfectly secure, and we treat any suspected incident as urgent -- see Contact below to report a concern.
Changes to this policy
If we make a material change to how we handle your data, we will update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify recruiters directly.
